April Adventures Across Japan Phase 3: Profit!
Aomori Day 7: Towada revisited
The last day of my holidays, and while it was tempting to make another jammie day out of it, we decided to go back to Towada and check out Art Station Towada. It's a pretty funky set up with some really neat pieces. Again, you can't take pictures, but they had post card prints for sale, so I grabbed a bunch.
The audio-video displays, obviously could not be captured in such a way, but it was neat to visit. I shall have to keep an eye on the website and check it out again once they have some new stuff to see.
I made Japanese curry for dinner, my first try. I love that stuff so much, I wish I could eat it all the time. Omnomnomnom.
A nice end to a great set of holiday. Yeah. :)

Aomori Day 5: Shichinohe & Towada
Time to explore more of my new home... and teach Ashley how to walk to the Shinkansen station because I would be at work when she had to leave. We lucked out and got another nice day and made our way down to the station. Sadly, there were no displays at that time (when I'd been there a week earlier, there had been a plethora of mobiles and some kimonos on display. I think there were for Girls' Day).

Aomori Day 4: Hachinohe-Away!

Canada is big.
Very, very, big.
Google maps will tell you that it takes 28 hours to drive from Winnipeg to Vancouver. To drive out East, Winnipeg to Sydney Nova Scotia, Google Maps says 40 hours. The Trans-Canada Highway is over 3500 km long (closer to 3700 clicks).

Towada Revival
I hope this becomes a thing, because it was great to hang out with folks I don't see very often, and in a setting where we could chat and stuff. Plus there was meat... lots and lots of meat. These 食べ飲みほうだい (all you can eat and drink for a set time) places will be the death of me... This time it was at in 八光苑 Towada. 2000¥for all you can eat and drink! Woo woo! (well, 2500¥ if you're a dude)

November highlights...
Wow, almost December already? Jeebus.
This month has been dotted with many drunken karaoke nights, which is great (I think), cuz I love to sing and there's awesome (and surprising) song selection here. I never thought I would ever sing Rancid or Goldfinger for karaoke. Who cares that it's midi file style musical accompaniment I got to sing Time Bomb (and NoFX's Bob, there's also quite a few Nine Inch Nails songs in there, too, depending on where you go) and 99 Red Balloons. I went out with my friend Minako, from the BOE office a couple of times. We went for dinner with friends of hers and then out with Sakura-san who works in the drop-in type center upstairs from us. Both nights were delicious and song-filled... I have discovered I am able to sing Peggy Lee's Fever without much difficulty, which is nice when I'm with a different crowd. I've gotta figger out at least one Japanese song to do... I have a feeling it with be the opening theme from either Evangelion or Escaflowne. The Evangelion one seems to be available in more places...

Bowling
I got invited to join the folks from the matsuri (the festival I played Taiko drums in) for a night of bowling in Towada at Eagle Bowling Lanes. How could I refuse?

To the Book deposi-- I mean Mall!
It's not for lack of trying that I haven't sent a package back to North American full of strange things, it's that I haven't quite found the right things to ship back just yet. Now I get to see many strange things, but they're just not... the *right* strange things. I went down to the Shimoda Mall with David and Tim and here are some of the items we came across at Village Vanguard.
