Hello Blog, it has been far FAR too
long since we've last chatted. How have you all been? I am currently
on Stewart Island, waiting to see what the weather decides it wants
to be like today. So far, we've had a good drop of rain first thing
this morning, now it's windy and partly cloudy. Who knows what's in
store for late this afternoon. I spent a good long time on Banks
Peninsula, regarding which I have every intention of doing at least
one solid entry. I had many adventures there, walked to many
beautiful places, met some really awesome people, made some really
great friends, lost some-not-so-great-ones. Worked weekends, managed
a hostel, “vice-managed” another hostel, got conflicting
information from various immigration office representatives (don't
worry, I'm here legally, and shall remain so until the end of May)

Not much to say about this vid...
I'm afraid the last thing I want to do in the evening is sit at my computer, so updates are pretty slow and few.
Enjoy a time lapsed video of this morning's sunrise in the meantime.

ラッセラー! ラッセラー! Here's my post on ねぶた!
Hey hey everybody!
It's still summer vacation, so I have office days all this week. Which means.... time for a prompt update! Friday night was a work party. It was a really good time with my co-workers, dinner followed by karaoke. Thankfully it didn't go terribly late, and I wasn't hurting *too* much the next morning from all the umeshuu (plum wine) that I had to drink (it's like CANDY!). I met newly arrived Kyle and we drove down to the shinkansen station to meet up with Jenny and her friend who was due to arrive at 8 am.
Off we went to Aomori city for a day of adventure and to jump in the Nebuta Festival parade!

Guts shoooooow! (Doo good?)
Monday of the long-weekend was Sports Day in Japan and Thanksgiving in Canada. So I decided to go and support a fellow JET in his MMA fighting debut. I made the drive out alone and managed to not get lost (yippie!). Made my way towards the 八戸市 公会堂 after Skyping with my family who were just finishing a Sunday evening Turkey dinner. It was super nice to see everyone who made it out to my parents for the meal.

Beef and Garlic adventures!
Greetings and salutations! Tim, Katie, Juliann and I set off for the wilds of Takko for the Beef and Garlic festival last Sunday. Here's the deal: you bring some food & cooking utensils (we picked up some 'shrooms and yakisoba) then head down to Takko-machi. Grab a grill, buy some of the beef and garlic available and toss it on.
| You can tell they were expecting a good turn out from the base... heh heh heh |
