Day 5: Tokyo Disneyland
Twas an early morning that we got a move on, breaking our fast (guess whose been reading a Song of Ice and Fire...) with eggs and apples purchased at the near by grocery store. Bidding a fond farewell to Asakusa, we rode subway and trains to Komagome to check into our new accommodations I figgered that Ashley should try out the capsule-life, and so off we went to Capsule Inn Komagome (which is actually called Rosuko Sauna, thankfully I found a review the night before and so we didn't get lost). As it turns out, we weren't allowed to actually check into the Inn until we were going to stay for the night, so we dropped our luggage off in a locker and were on our way. We picked up a mixed bag of baked goods from a bakery we passed on our way back to the Komagome JR to help keep down the day's cost (one thing my co-workers warned me about was that everything at TD is expensive, so we took a few previsions).
It was a beautiful sunny day during spring break... so the park was packed and the fast-passes were sold out by 10:00 when we arrived at the park. Drat. Well, in for a penny... we decided which rides we wanted to try and get on the most and hoped for the best. We managed to get onto Pooh's Honey hunt (after a 3 hour wait), but it was a neat ride (my fellow JETs hadn't lied to me about that haha).
I couldn't help but smile at all the folks who were dressed up wearing either funny hats, character's bows or how many little girls were dressed up like princesses. Like, cosplay worth dress up. It's possible there was a costume competition that we were unaware of at the castle... We were much more focused upon seeing Toon Town and getting our ride-on. Haha.
Rides we accomplished:
- Pooh's Honey Hunt (super cool track-less ride and great visuals)
- The Haunted Mansion (my favorite, just like when I was a kid in Disney World, we lucked out and got into line just before a parade started, so lotsa folks opted not to ride at that time)
- Splash Mountain (we got to scoot through the fast-pass lane as 'single riders', made sure we did it before the sun went down so we didn't catch a cold... again... dang rain!)
- Space Mountain (my first time, my folks weren't big roller coaster riders and my bro was too little when we went to Florida many moons ago... yes... moons.. shush)
- Pirates of the Caribbean (my Mum's favorite ride, and I remember digging it as a kid. Good times with a touch of Jack Sparrow added for tie-in value)
- Big Thunder Mountain (we got in just before close and it was a great time).
Tokyo Disney had a few different flavors of popcorn to try, and Ashley bought one of their 30 year anniversary collectible collapsible buckets. We had Curry, caramel, chocolate, and soy sauce & butter. We did not get the chance to try the honey, salt (meh) or the corn potage (which I don't even know what to guess would be like...).
Sadly, the fireworks were cancelled due to the weather (?), but that just translated to more time for rides. We did get to see the electric parade after we rode Space Mountain, though.
Gorgeous photo of the castle!
ReplyDeleteOh Japan... "fun loving pirates sack and burn a Caribbean seaport", because that's what fun people do.
Thanks for sharing the adventures :D looking forward to more!
